Kristen founded Yogasana Center in 2003 to bring together a community of extraordinary teachers rooted in the Iyengar tradition and students who desire a disciplined physical practice of awareness and self-study.
As a dancer, Kristen came to yoga and to the Alexander technique in 1993. She left her first yoga class feeling like her body and mind had been put back together as a cubist painting. She fell in love with it and continued exploring yoga’s various styles.
Beginning her teacher training at Yoga Union with Alison West, Kristen studied intensively at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of NY with Mary Dunn, Genny Kapuler (whom she assisted for 2 years), and Robin Janis, including teacher training with James Murphy, Anna Golfinopolous, and Mary Dunn.
Kristen has been a yoga teacher since 1996 and taught at Jaya Yoga, Yoga Union, Body Tonic, Eastern Athletic Clubs, and from her home studio before opening Yogasana Center.
Kristen’s yoga, in teaching and practice, is deeply influenced by the Alexander Technique. She graduated from the Mathews School of the Alexander Technique in 1999, and in 2006 completed a graduate course in “The Art of Breathing.”
While teaching at and running Yogasana Center, Kristen continues to teach Alexander Technique privately, and to study with and be inspired by her yoga mentors Robin Janis and Donald Moyer, and her Alexander Technique mentors Gwen Ellison and Jessica Wolf.
