Yoga & Scoliosis
Saturday, March 15, 2008 - 2-6pm - Yogasana Center - Taught by Deborah Wolk
4-hour workshop only $60

The practice of yoga can help bring awareness to a spinal curvature and may relieve pain
as well as slow the progression of scoliosis. A yoga practice that specifically addresses
the scoliosis with awareness and alignment will practically assure these results.
This workshop will cover the basic anatomy concerning the three dimensional curvature
of the spine and how it affects one's body/mind and health. Ways of practicing asana
and using props especially geared towards those with scoliosis will be explored.
Anyone with scoliosis is encouraged to attend this workshop including those people
considering yoga as a therapeutic option. Yoga teachers and body workers are also
encouraged to attend. It is especially recommended that students attend with their
teachers.nts.

April 2008 Workshops
The Art of Breathing: an Inspirational Workshop
Saturday, April 5, 2008 - 10am-12:30pm (break) 1:30-4pm - Yogasana Center - Taught by Jessica Wolf - Must practice at a Level 2 or above aptitude
5-hour workshop only $100

Breathing is as fundamental to life as the beating of our hearts. But breath, unlike the involuntary heartbeat, is something we can influence. Because we usually take breathing for granted, we tend not to realize the harmful effects faulty breathing can have. Within our yoga practice faulty breathing creates compensatory patterns of holding and hardening that limit our range of motion. Tightness in the shoulders, hips, and back can be directly related to the way in which we interfere with the natural coordination of our respiratory mechanism. Fortunately, through improving how we breathe we can regain the body’s freedom and organization.

In this workshop introducing The Art of Breathing, we will discuss:

• The anatomy of breathing

• How to activate the whole body and allow the breath to function with minimum effort and maximum efficiency

• Yoga asana: coordinating the breath with the physical postures to create freedom and ease

• The effect of fatigue, stress and environmental pollutants on the respiratory and nervous systems

• Breathing faults related to illness such as asthma, reflux, backache and overall muscular tension

Yoga for Osteoporosis
April 12, 2008 - 2:30-4:30pm - Yogasana Center - Taught by Eve Holbrook - $25 advance registration, or $30 on day of workshop - All levels welcome

In order to increase bone density, flexibility, strength, and avoid future fractures, you need to be mindful of how you treat your body. The wrong kind of exercise can leave you in pain and potentially break bones, but without exercise you grow weaker, stiffer, and you lose the vital minerals you need to prevent fractures.

Yoga can help your bones gain density, resilience, and even stimulate your bones to retain calcium. With its emphasis on weight-bearing poses and full range of motion, yoga can be carefully controlled to produce forces that are great enough to stimulate bone strengthening, without damaging the very bones you are trying to reinforce.

Come learn which poses support the health of your bones, and learn how to adapt the poses to work for your body in whatever condition it is in.
